This is the first gig of 2024 for me, and immediately it’s something somewhat out of my comfort zone of (black and thrash) metal. Mind Wolf is a Belgian threepiece bringing a mix of classic rock with some psychedelic and stoner influences.
Just before the show started, the guitarist suddenly had a technical issue with the gear, after a bit of troubleshooting and swearing, they were ready go and delivered a 1hr show with bravado. There was a good amount of energy from start to finish and, using pedals, they were able to constantly shift their sound to keep it interesting.
The only have one EP so far which, as far as I’m aware, is only available digitally.
After a quick teardown from Mind Wolf, it was time for Liquid Silver. Again a Belgian band, they bring rock ‘n roll with a strong sleazy side. Effortlessly switching between softer, quiter passages and heavy, headbanging riffs, they easily captivated the attention of the audience. Interestingly, the vocalist/bassist decided to perform in front of the podium, between the crowd, for the entire show. This really added intimacy, especially on the sleazier parts.
